Technical Requirements & Recommendations
Please find below the technical requirements and recommendations for successfully running YellowTip Reservations within your organization.
Dedicated Server
We strongly recommend that you run YellowTip Reservations on a dedicated server. This will ensure that YellowTip Reservations runs at optimal speed and stability.
Computer hardware (including servers) is cheap these days. Investing in a new dedicated server is well worth the money!
Modern Network
YellowTip Reservations is a server based system. This means that you must have a fast and reliable local area network (LAN) connecting your workstations to your server. We recommend a 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet network.
Wireless networks (Wi-Fi) generally work fine, but are much more suseptible to external disturbance causing the network to become unstable. Make sure you have atleast one workstation on a wired network connection.
External Access
In case you would like to access YellowTip Reservations from outside your LAN (i.e. through the internet), a broadband internet connection with a fixed IP address is required.
Important: When making YellowTip Reservations available on the internet, we strongly recommend making it available only through the encrypted Secure Socket Layer (SSL). This ensures that usernames, passwords and sensitive customer information are transfered securely via the internet.
Internet Explorer 6
YellowTip Reserations is a 100% browser based application. This means that your workstations only need to have a web browser installed to run it. YellowTip Reservations requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (for Windows) as the browser. At this time, browsers like Mozilla FireFox, Netscape, Safari and Opera are not supported. While you are able to log into YellowTip Reservations with most browsers, we strongly recommend only using Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 to use YellowTip Reservations.
Internet Explorer needs to be configured with a security setting of 'Medium-Low'. Also, we strongly recommend that you turn off any pop-up blockers or other spamware applications for YellowTip Reservations (You can do this while keeping them activated for all other sites). Finally, we strongly recommend deactivated or uninstalling any 3rd party browser toolbars.
Modern Workstations
As YellowTip Reservations is a browser based application, your server performs most of the processing work. This means that your server needs to be powerful and your workstations from which YellowTip Reservations will be used can be relatively simple. Important is that you have a modern workstations with a Celeron, PIII or IV processor and a reliable network interface card.
As a monitor we recommend using at least a 17" monitor. The minimum required screen resolution is 1024x768, but a higher resolution is always better.
Please double check that you have Internet Explorer 6 (for Windows) installed on each workstation.
Windows Server Requirements
The following are hard requirements for running YellowTip Reservations on a Windows server:
- Minimum: Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz, 1GB of RAM
- Recommended: Intel Xeon 3 Ghz, 1GB of RAM
- Windows 2000, 2003 Server, XP Professional
- Apache Webserver 2.0.55
- PHP 5.1.2 with libxslt and GD2 installed
- Zend Optimizer 3.0.1
- MySQL database server 5.0.22
Important! By using our Windows installer, the correct versions of Apache, PHP, Zend Optimizer and MySQL are automatically installed and configured. This is a big time saver!
Linux Server Requirements
The following are hard requirements for running YellowTip Reservations on a Linux server:
- Minimum: Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 Ghz, 1GB of RAM
- Recommended: Intel Xeon 3 Ghz, 1GB of RAM
- Linux operating system like RedHat, Suse, Debian, Ubuntu
- Apache webserver 2.0.55
- PHP 5.1.2 with libxslt and GD2 installed
- Zend Optimizer 3.0.1
- MySQL database server 5.0.22
